Equity is pleased to announce the release of an updated version of the Member Guide to Respectful Workplaces. Developed by Equity Council’s Respectful Workplace Task Force, the Guide details responsibilities, preventive measures, resolutions and resources to help inform, empower and support artists – and encourage a workplace free from abuse, harassment and all forms of inappropriate behaviour.
Key revisions include an updated list of inappropriate behaviours as defined in Equity’s Bylaws, as well as additional information emphasizing the importance of addressing concerns directly with the engager promptly to resolve issues most effectively.
“Members need to know that it’s the engagers that are responsible for providing a safe and respectful work environment,” said Equity Executive Director, Alex Levine. “It’s their workplace, and they are best positioned to address and resolve complaints immediately.
The best case scenario is that members feel empowered to bring any concerns directly to the engager’s attention without fear of reprisal. Equity will, of course, always be here to fight for members who do fear reprisal, feel powerless, or if engagers fail to take their concerns seriously. But the engagers need to be the first responders wherever possible. We hope this Guide can help achieve that goal.”
