The Stage Management Association (UK) established the first Stage Managers' Day on October 10, 2013. It is now celebrated as International Stage Management Day every October 10 in New Zealand, Australia, U.K., Canada, U.S.A., and throughout Europe.

We’ve invited Equity’s Stage Manager Councillors, Erika Morey and Melissa Novecosky to recognize the work of their SM colleagues.

Happy International Stage Management Day!

As we reach the end of our term as Stage Management Councillors, we’re reflecting on the best part of the job – connecting with stage managers from across the country! While we miss seeing everyone in person, taking advantage of the opportunity to meet with and learn from so many brilliant SMs online has been an inspiring way for us to collectively imagine the future of stage management.

Now that some of us are starting to trickle back into rehearsal halls, we hope we can continue to hold on to these conversations – particularly the ones that asked us to interrogate a work culture that did not always prioritize our well-being. Fellow SMs, please be gentle with yourselves as we all remember what it is to share creative space with each other again. And remember to take your breaks!
