Need Guidance for your 2020 Taxes?
Recognizing the impact of COVID-19 on Canadian artists over the last year, the complexities of navigating the Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) and Canada Recovery Benefit (CRB), and the fall-out from miscommunication over gross/net income to qualify for benefits that occurred around Christmas, has sparked the Canada Council for the Arts to put some money forward for tax information support for Canadian artists to guide them in their 2020 tax filing.

Canadian Artists’ Representation/Le Front des artistes canadiens (CARFAC) has been tasked with organizing some pre-recorded tax information sessions for Canadian artists, which will be made available to Canadian artists.

In order for these information sessions to address the questions and challenges faced by Canadian artists, CARFAC has prepared a short survey to gather information that will be used to shape the content of these sessions with tax experts.

This survey is open until March 26 and we encourage Equity members to take advantage of this opportunity to register your questions so this tax information can be tailored to your needs. NOTE: This survey is administered by CARFAC, so any questions about the survey or its content should be directed to them: www.carfac.ca/contact.

The survey and training are open to all so please feel free to share the survey link in English and French. The more artists they hear from, the better they will be able to tailor the recorded information sessions.

CARFAC has also gathered useful links to guides and information on Tax Tips for Artists that are definitely worth checking out.

Equity will share further information as it becomes available.
