Bylaw Update – November 2020
Equity's Council encourages all members to be familiar with the rules that govern membership in our Association. Electronic copies of the current Constitution and Bylaws are available on www.caea.com. Hard copies of the Constitution and Bylaws are available upon request to the National Office at info@caea.com.

At its online meeting on November 30, Council made two amendments to the Association's Bylaws and repealed one Bylaw.

Bylaws 126 and 128. The Council Education and Renewal Committee recommended further amendments to Bylaws related to the Equity Council elections that run every three years. Two Bylaws were combined into one which outlines the materials that will be sent to voters (a ballot, a notice of election, and a list of candidates and election statements) and the deadline by which voters must have received these materials (no later than the first day of voting). Combining both into Bylaw 126 meant that Bylaw 128 became redundant and was repealed.

Bylaw 144(b). This Bylaw was amended to reflect that the semi-annual dues billing is now electronic and therefore the semi-annual compendium of recent Bylaw changes, previously mailed in hardcopy along with member cards and arrears invoices, will now also be delivered electronically. Members who have a "mail" dues notification preference, or who do not have an email address on file with Equity, will receive a printed notice of Bylaw amendments twice per year.

In addition to these amendments, Council approved two resolutions related to Bylaws:
  • To approve the inclusion of Intimacy Directors in Equity’s jurisdiction as per the requirement in Bylaw 138.
  • That for the 2021 Council election, Council will strive to fill nine of the 23 seats from a range of demographic groups historically underrepresented within Equity’s membership (including but not limited to Indigenous and racialized identity, D/deaf and disability, and LGBTQ2+) as per Bylaw 109(c).
