Bylaw Update - October 2020
Equity's Council encourages all members to be familiar with the rules that govern membership in our Association. Electronic copies of the current Bylaws are available on www.caea.com. Hard copies of the Constitution and Bylaws are available upon request to the National Office (info@caea.com).

At its online meetings of October 25 and 26, Council added one and amended several of the Association's Bylaws pertaining to Council elections, and amended the timing of the National Annual General Meeting.

Bylaw 100. Deletion of stale Bylaw language defining a year as a 12 month period, returning Equity's National Annual General Meeting to an annual schedule.

Bylaws 109(c), 123(a), 125, 126, 126.1 (new), 129 and 130. The Council Education and Renewal Committee recommended a number of changes to Bylaws related to the Equity Council elections that run every three years. These changes were to make the process more efficient and better reflect the patterns observed in candidates and voters. The changes were: (1) to have the nomination period start at the beginning of September instead of mid-summer; (2) to slightly shorten the nomination period; (3) to shorten the election period to not exceed three weeks; (4) the elections would take place in November instead of October; and (5) the newly elected Council would meet for their first scheduled meeting in January 2022. Other changes pertained to opening up voting to all members in good standing, regardless of age; and refining the criteria for determining the minimum number of seats Council will strive to fill from demographic groups historically underrepresented within Equity’s membership.
