Touring requires additional planning and requirements to ensure safety, etc. Contact your Business Rep as soon as possible to discuss timelines and requirements.
Before getting started, read Article 49:00 (Touring). This reference material is provided as a summary for convenience only.
Local touring is a run-out where the Artist leaves and returns to the Theatre’s Point of Origin on the same day for the purpose of rehearsing or performance, and where no overnight accommodation is required.
Overnight touring is when the Artist is required by the Theatre for any reason to be away from the Point of Origin for more than ten (10) consecutive hours and overnight accommodation is required.
The Route Sheet outlines the performance locations, travel distance, and timing. It must be submitted to your Business Rep and the Liaison(s) at least one week ahead of the start of the tour.
Read Article 49:00 (Touring), complete and file your Route Sheet with Equity.
Read Clause 49:01 (Fees) and send to your Business Rep both your performance schedule(s) and the venue(s) where you will be performing. Equity must confirm that your proposed pay does not undercut the applicable U.S. Actors’ Equity Association (AEA) fees.
Read through Article 50:00 (Overseas Rider) and work with your Business Rep to prepare the Overseas Rider, which will deal specifically with matters like travel schedules and overtime, accommodations, per diem (rates established by the Treasury Board of Canada), extended health insurance, cultural considerations and more.
We recommend that you begin this process at least a month prior to the start of rehearsals or Equity may not be able to approve your tour.
