Collective Agreements

Collective agreements are legally binding agreements negotiated between Equity and an Engager or group of Engagers. They set wages and working conditions, including health and safety, respectful workplace conditions, and the ability to negotiate above scale.

Engagement Policies

Engagement policies are established by Equity and set wages and working conditions, including health and safety and respectful workplace conditions. They provide more flexibility for work opportunities, member-led producing, and lower-budget projects. Engagement policies are reviewed periodically by Equity staff and members and may be revised as needed.

Acronyms

CTA

Canadian Theatre Agreement. This Agreement is negotiated with the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres (PACT).

DOT

Dance • Opera • Theatre (DOT) Policy. The DOT Policy is Equity’s multidisciplinary engagement policy for non-standard, small-scale engagements in dance, opera, and theatre.

ACP

Artists’ Collective Policy. The ACP is ideal for collaborative productions where there is no guarantee of any fees and, instead, everyone agrees to share revenues, including box office proceeds.

ESCA

Equity Second City Agreement. This Agreement is negotiated with Second City.

ITA

Independent Theatre Agreement. The ITA is a mirror of the Canadian Theatre Agreement (CTA), with some differences. The ITA is used by professional theatre companies across Canada that are not members of the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres (PACT).

OPA

Opera Agreement. This Agreement is negotiated with Calgary Opera, Edmonton Opera, Manitoba Opera, Opera Atelier, and Pacific Opera Victoria.

COA

Canadian Opera Agreement. This Agreement is negotiated with the Canadian Opera Company.

VOA

Vancouver Opera Agreement. This Agreement is negotiated with the Vancouver Opera.

ABA

Alberta Ballet Agreement. This Agreement is negotiated with the Alberta Ballet.

LGBA / CCLGB

Les Grands Ballets Agreement / Convention Collective Les Grands Ballets Canadiens. This Agreement is negotiated with Les Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal.

NBCA

National Ballet of Canada Agreement. This Agreement is negotiated with the National Ballet of Canada.

RWBA

Royal Winnipeg Ballet Agreement. This Agreement is negotiated with the Royal Winnipeg Ballet.
