Honours Committee

Life Membership is awarded to a member of Equity who has made an outstanding contribution to the performing arts within our jurisdiction.

Honorary Membership is awarded to a non-member of Equity who has made an outstanding contribution to the Association and/or its members, or to the performing arts.

The Larry McCance Award is presented to Equity members in good standing or to former staff members who have made an outstanding contribution to the Association.

The CAEA Award of Distinction was created for Council to express appreciation on an occasional basis. It may be given to an organization, individual, or group of individuals (excluding current staff), in recognition of a significant contribution benefiting the Equity membership.

Please note: Regular and Life Members in good standing (only) are eligible to nominate for any award.

 

Stage West - Equity Emerging Artist Award

Stage West has generously committed to continuing our partnership on the Stage West – Equity Emerging Artist Award: a $2,500 award to an Equity member who will be selected by the Equity Honours Committee. In order to qualify for nomination, the nominee must:

  • Be a regular Equity member in good standing;
  • Have joined Equity as of November 30, 2016, or later; and
  • Have made (a) significant contribution(s) to culturally specific work* in live performance (in Canada)

* "Culturally specific work" is defined as productions that focus on the inclusion of identities traditionally under-represented on Canadian stages, including: D/deaf and persons with a disability, LGBTQ, Trans and Non-binary, Indigenous, Ethnoculturally and/or Racially Diverse. Work cited must have taken place under an Equity contract.

Please note: Eligible Equity members must be nominated by a colleague, or by a theatre. Members may not self-nominate for this award.


Each nomination package must include all of the following:

  • Artist’s resume (headshot not required);
  • Nomination letter. This letter must specifically address the nominee’s significant contribution(s) to culturally specific work in Canada;
  • Support letters from at least three theatre professionals (e.g. Equity member, theatre manager or playwright). Support letters (maximum of one page each) must also address the award criteria as per the nomination letter;
  • Complete contact information for the supporting theatre professional(s); and
  • Nominee’s complete address, email and telephone number.

Optional:

  • Additional documentation to a maximum of five pages. Please do not send original documents as materials submitted cannot be returned.
  • A maximum of one media link (e.g. YouTube, Vimeo performance or interview) showcasing a nominee’s work.

Email the nomination package to communications@caea.com (note: zip files are prohibited) or mail to Equity’s National Office (Attn: Stage West Equity Award Nomination Committee). Electronic and hard copy nomination packages, including all support materials, must be received in Equity’s National Office not later than at close of business on Monday, November 18, 2019.

The Stage West - Equity Emerging Theatre Artist Award - honouring professionalism and artistic excellence is presented annually to a theatre performer who has been a member of the Association for less than three years. This award went on hiatus 2012 to 2016. In 2017 Equity and Stage West Theatres partnered again, creating a reinvented award with a new focus on emerging artists who have made a significant contribution to culturally specific work (in Canada).
