Equity's National Council is publishing this notice to the membership in accordance with Bylaw 106. The intention of this bylaw is to ensure that members are informed about actions taken in relation to Disciplinary Complaints and efforts made to maintain safe and respectful workspaces for our members.

We are informing the membership of the outcome of two appeal requests heard by Equity’s Council at the January 25, 2022 meeting. Both appeals were in relation to the findings of a Discipline Committee decision, pursuant to an investigation of allegations of inappropriate conduct by an Equity member.

The Respondent’s points of appeal under Bylaw 99(a)(i), Bylaw 99(a)(ii), and Bylaw 99(a)(iii) were dismissed on the basis that they did not support grounds for an appeal as expressed in said Bylaws.

The Complainants’ points of appeal under Bylaw 99(a)(ii) and Bylaw 99(a)(v) were dismissed on the basis that they did not support grounds for an appeal as expressed in said Bylaws.

Council would like to remind all members that they have a right to a workplace that ensures their safety, their dignity, and their creativity. Since the launch of the Not in OUR Space! campaign, Council and Equity staff have worked diligently to ensure that members have these protections in place.
