After being closed on Fridays for nearly two years as a result of the pandemic’s financial impact on the Association’s staff levels, Equity is pleased to announce a gradual reopening plan that will begin Friday, February 18, 2022.

Despite the setback of recent shutdowns due to the Omicron variant, projections for the industry’s recovery headed into the spring remain encouraging. With more contracts beginning to roll in, Equity has increased some staff back to full time and made the decision to reopen on Fridays.

However, as we are not yet able to rehire positions that were laid off, and because a number of staff continue to work reduced hours, the office remains understaffed. Members and engagers are therefore encouraged to continue contacting Equity via email from Monday to Thursday for most business, though staff will be available for any time-sensitive questions and emergencies on Fridays as of next week.

“For the first time in a long while, I am cautiously optimistic about the direction our industry is headed in. More work means more questions from members and engagers about our agreements, contracts, and other business of the Association,” said Equity Executive Director, Arden R. Ryshpan. “We’re still not back to the staff levels we were at pre-pandemic, but Equity needs to meet the service standards our members expect and the work requires, and to do that, we need to be available Monday to Friday.”

Equity continues to monitor the Association’s finances and provincial health regulations with an aim to reopen the office to the public and increase staffing levels further in the spring, barring further COVID-19 complications that impact finances and accessibility to the office.
