The conference consists of 13 courses over 9-days that range in topics from basic skills (Reading Music, How To Be a Good Apprentice, How to Find a Job, Canadian Theatre Agreement) to specific facets of stage management (Scheduling & Planning, Blocking & Rehearsal Management, Calling a Show, Giving Notes), and advanced skills for the Equity Stage Manager (SMs & Intimacy Directors, Workplace Harassment and the Rehearsal Hall, Training Apprentices, Calling a Show 2, Newest CTA).

SMArts was founded by the late Winston Morgan in 1996. SMArts Executive Director, Janelle Rainville, and the Programming Team of Melissa Novecosky, Leslie Watson, and Karyn Kumhyr, join experts in the field to host a series of seminars exploring the many aspects of the craft of stage management. These sessions provide a comfortable environment for new or experienced stage managers to hone their skills.

The Conference is designed for both the experienced stage manager who is looking for diversification within their field and for the student or apprentice stage manager who wants to know more about their career choice.
