Equity Attends Virtual International Federation of Actors (FIA) Congress
For the first time since the founding of the FIA in 1952, the 22nd FIA World Congress will take place in a purely virtual environment. It was scheduled to take place in Fall 2020 in Manchester but was cancelled due to the pandemic and a virtual Congress planned to take its place. The 22nd FIA Congress will take place between May 3-7 and Executive Director Arden R. Ryshpan, Associate Executive Director Steven Sparling, Equity Council President Scott Bellis, First Vice-President Kerry Davidson and Council Secretary / Treasurer Erika Morey will attend.

Equity has submitted (or co-submitted) several motions to be discussed at the Congress including:
  • Motion #8 that recovery efforts for the sector aim to build back ‘greener’ or with a focus on more ecologically–minded ways of working
  • Motion #14 to encourage governments to extend a permanent and robust wage and social protection to freelance arts and entertainment workers with independent contractor status
  • Motion #19 to encourage practices of ‘ethical casting’ including consideration of representation, consent and agency in the casting process
Executive Director Arden R. Ryshpan's report to the FIA North America working group (including other visiting English language affiliates), which gives an overview of Equity’s work over the last year, is now posted on Equity's website.
