Dance Member Eligibility

There are two ways to join Canadian Actors’ Equity Association (Equity) as a professional dancer:

  • As a member of a professional association with which Equity has a reciprocal agreement (ACTRA, AEA or UDA) or as a member of AGMA, Equity UK etc.
  • As a professional dancer meeting membership eligibility requirements as set by Equity.

Membership access criteria:
Your application will be assessed based on the information you provide below. Complete this form with information that best represents your work as a professional artist. Your membership ability will be evaluated on the following criteria:

  • A history of paid professional work;
  • Recognition as a professional by other professional artists; and
  • Willingness to commit to membership in Equity and an ongoing professional career in dance.
Artistic merit will not be evaluated.

You will be contacted regarding your application within two weeks. If your application is approved, you will be offered a reduced $10.00 initiation fee and invited into Equity’s membership.

  • A letter in support of your application from a professional artist in your community. The letter should highlight your work or educational experience with that artist or and be no longer than 500 words.

Equity membership best serves artists who are committed to an ongoing professional dance career. Equity members benefit from professional rehearsal and performance working terms and conditions, contract enforcement, health and safety protections, participation in a group RRSP, insurance plan coverage, career support and other membership rights and privileges.
 I understand and accept the obligations of Equity membership and I commit to ongoing professional work in dance. I will only work when first signed to an engagement contract under Equity’s Open policy, another engagement policy or a negotiated agreement.
