Manitoba Theatre Centre, co-founded in 1958 by Tom Hendry and John Hirsch, has been a mainstay of western theatre since its beginnings. Hirsch was director until 1966. Len Cariou, between Stratford and Broadway, was director at MTC in 1975; Evelyne Anderson has celebrated more than 50 productions at MTC; William Hutt, a founding Stratford member, became a CAEA life member in 1997; Heath Lamberts was a regular MTC player from 1963-67; Roberta Maxwell was the first Stratford apprentice in 1957.
