2009 Stage West-Equity Emerging Theatre Artist Award
Equity will once again award one of its emerging members with a cheque for $2,000 in recognition of their professionalism, artistic excellence and innovation. The award will be given to a performing artist in theatre or musical theatre who has been a member of the Association for less than three years. Applications for the Award will be adjudicated by Equity's Honours Committee. This year the Stage West - Equity Emerging Theatre Artist Award will be announced in early November 2009 in a city yet to be designated by Council.

The Stage West - Equity Emerging Theatre Artist Award is made possible as the result of a $25,000 donation from Stage West Theatres and the Pechet family in honour of Equity's silver anniversary in 2001.

Award Criteria
  • The award will be given to an Equity theatre artist who has been a member of the Association for less than three years. For 2009, the artist must have joined Equity after July 1st, 2006.
  • The artist must demonstrate: professionalism, artistic excellence and innovation within their craft.
  • Qualifying artists must be full members of Canadian Actors' Equity Association in good standing.

    Application Process
    Artists may place their own names in nomination, or be nominated by another Equity member, or by a Theatre. Each application must include the following:
  • Artist's resume.
  • A one-page letter of support from a maximum of three theatre professionals, such as an Equity member, Theatre manager or playwright.
  • Applicant's full address, email and telephone number, and the address and telephone number of the supporting theatre professional(s).
  • Applications may also include additional documentation to a maximum of five pages. No video will be accepted. Please do not send original documents. Materials submitted cannot be returned.
    Applications must be post-marked by August 31st, 2009.
    The decision of the selection committee is final.
    There is no official application form.
